The Advanced Audio/Video Production program is the perfect class for you! Students learn about cinematography, video editing, audio recording, sound mixing, lighting, directing, producing, still or animated computer graphics, special effects, voice talent, on camera talent, production skills.
Students will develop a portfolio of work that will assist them in gaining entry level employment, earning admittance into college film/video, television/radio broadcasting, and audio production programs, as well as securing post-secondary internships and scholarships. Additional time beyond regular school hours is required for productions.

What is Audio Video Production 1?
Audio Video Production is an introduction and overview of the visual and audio media world. Students learn the fundamentals of video and audio production using professional equipment. How do cameras capture light and record images as analog or digital information? How does sound engineering work, and what are the different elements that turn sound waves into electronic information and back again? How does an editing system function, and how can you use one to make your audience think and feel and experience exactly what you’re trying to accomplish with your production? Students gain knowledge and experience in all of these areas and many more, with extensive hands-on assignments involving video cameras, video and audio editing, directing, video graphics, writing, producing studio and location productions, pre-production, production and post-production. Audio Video Production breaks down movie “magic” and teaches students the science, craftsmanship, and art that makes it all happen. What is Audio Video Production 2?
Advanced Audio Video Production is designed and structured to work as an open and largely self-directed lab course that allows students to expand and deepen the skills they learned in Audio Video Production. After learning the basic foundations in Audio Video Production, students who advance to Advanced Audio Video Production are able to concentrate on the areas of their greatest interest, such as videography, video/film editing, audio recording, audio mixing, sound reinforcement, sound design, visual design, dialog editing, lighting, video engineering, script writing, directing, producing, still or animated computer graphics, special effects, voice talent, on-camera talent, and camera operation. Projects done in class can help Advanced AVP graduates earn admittance and scholarships to top film schools throughout the world, such as the University of Southern California, New York University, the University of Texas at Austin, UNT and many, many others. Extracurricular activities give students the chance to participate in student film festivals and additional competitions in a wide variety of areas, including video production, radio/audio production, short filmmaking, A/V engineering, camera operation, product development, news writing and anchoring, and much more. AVP II is a double blocked course located at the Mesquite ISD Technology Excellence Center.
What is Practicum in Audio Video Production?
The Practicum in Audio Video Production course i s designed and structured to work as an open and largely self-directed lab course that allows students to expand and deepen the skills they learned in Advanced Audio Video Production. Practicum students are able to take on the leadership roles in all of the real production projects. Instructors work with students to create and develop individual learning plans focused on each student’s individual artistic or technical passions and interests. Each student identifies personal academic goals for the semester, and specific projects, assignments, and courses of study are developed to achieve those academic goals.
